Why use AWS Outposts

in your environment?

AWS Outposts bring native AWS services, infrastructure, and operating models to virtually any data center, co-location space, or on-premises facility. You can use the same AWS APIs, tools, and infrastructure across on premises and the AWS cloud to deliver a truly consistent hybrid experience. AWS Outposts is designed for connected environments and can be used to support workloads that need to remain on-premises due to low latency or local data processing needs.

AWS Outposts come in two variants: 1) VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts allows you to use the same VMware control plane and APIs you use to run your infrastructure, 2) AWS native variant of AWS Outposts allows you to use the same exact APIs and control plane you use to run in the AWS cloud, but on premises.

AWS Outposts infrastructure is fully managed, maintained, and supported by AWS to deliver access to the latest AWS capabilities. Getting started is easy, you simply log into the AWS Management Console to order your Outpost, choosing from a wide catalog of Amazon EC2 instances and capacity and EBS storage options.

How It Works

AWS Outposts extends AWS cloud capabilities to your premises or co-location site. You use the same AWS APIs, deployment tools, and control plane that you use in the AWS Cloud to manage local compute and storage to achieve low latency response times or process data locally before streaming it to the cloud.

AWS designed infrastructure, is automatically managed and patched as part of an AWS Region removing the need for management – you simply access Outpost capacity as you would with capacity in the AWS Cloud.

Benefits of

AWS Outposts

Extend AWS
on-premises

AWS Outposts enable you to develop once and deploy in the AWS cloud or on-premises without having to rewrite your applications. With Outposts, you have the same hardware and software infrastructure and a consistent set of services and tools across your AWS cloud and on-premises environments to build and run modern, cloud-native applications anywhere.

Choice of management planes

AWS Outposts allow you to choose the AWS native variant of AWS Outposts or the VMware Cloud on AWS Outposts variant as your management plane for your APIs, management console, automation, governance policies, and security controls for all your applications across the AWS cloud and on-premises locations.

Fully
managed

AWS Outposts are fully managed and supported by AWS, and AWS automatically manages and updates AWS Outposts as part of its ongoing operations in the public AWS region. You do not have to worry about updating or patching infrastructure.

Future-proof infrastructure

AWS Outposts allow you to choose from a wide selection of compute, memory, and storage options based on your needs. Outposts can be easily upgraded with the latest hardware and next-generation instances to run all your native AWS and VMware applications.

Use
Cases

Manufacturing Automation

Support manufacturing process control systems or robotics applications that need to run on premises close to equipment. Enable all your manufacturing sites to use the same central services deployed in the AWS Region for higher level decision making while using services deployed on site to perform anomaly detection on video feeds or process data from SCADA systems in real time.

Health
Care

Use Outposts for healthcare delivery solutions or research applications. Modernize your health suite applications to process patient images or medical record data with services like SageMaker integrated with Outposts’ local processing. Researchers can run workloads on premises to normalize large data sets like genomic sequences before uploading to the cloud, or to integrate with legacy equipment. Reduce hardware management complexity with a single point of support.

Financial
Services

Develop low latency trading platforms for handling trades, market data, and services close to trading partners. Aggregate and deliver financial data and feeds for banking, wealth management, and financial clients in an on-premises environment.

Content Production, Distribution and Gaming

Support live event and real time multiplayer game streaming with low latency. Improve operations for rendering audio and video feeds with local data processing capabilities.
